We’re happy to announce the availability of DNN Google Tag Manager 02.02.00. This release adds a new option “Inject in 404 error page” which allows you to easily add the Google Tag Manger snippet to DNN’s 404 error page.
Each DNN portal allows you to define a “404 Error Page” under “Site Settings > Advanced Settings > Page Management” to which the users gets navigated if they enter a URL that does not exist and a “Page not found” error occurs. By default, the Google Tag Manager snippet gets not injected to this 404 error pages. The reason for this is, that “Page not found” errors are internally handled in a very special way by DNN and ASP.NET (see wiki at dnnsoftware.com). You may have noticed that even DNN’s standard Google Analytics integration does not work on those pages.
To overcome this limitation and allow tracking on 404 pages, the new version of DNN Google Tag Manager adds a the option “Inject in 404 error page” (under “Admin > Google Tag Manager”) that defines portal-specific whether or not the Google Tag Manager snippet should also be injected on the “Page not found” sites.
